Canada 2025Jason Zumpano’s Dig, a hand drawn digitally animated narrative stripped free of embellishments, meditates on modes of recovery. With a Lambda string synth tightening around an existential moment, a lone jean-jacketed and scruffy figure of ambivalence stands in the middle of the desert. An Ennio Morricone-inflected soundscape subtly advances this lost character’s stumbling into whatever lies ahead. A sonic archivist of the soul’s lesser known corners, Zumpano’s fourth short film presents a psycho-social foray into minimalism and masculinity’s ambiguities.
